Sejarah hari Asyura
Puasa hari Asyura pula merupakan sunah Nabi Muhammad s.a.w. (Riwayat Bukhari).

5 Powerful Foods that Lower Your Blood Pressure
Are you eating enough of these 5 amazing foods that help reduce high blood pressure?
Did you know that stroke and coronary heart disease still remain to be on the list of the top three main causes of death.? It's time to take your health seriously so you don't fall victim to these!
What is High Blood Pressure and how does this come into play?
According to the National Institute for Health, blood pressure levels of 140/90 mmHg or more can be classified as hypertension.
The worst part about having high blood pressure is that the condition can sometimes be present without any symptoms and before we know it, the damage is already extensive. Serious problems that have been associated with high blood pressure include kidney failure, heart attack, heart failure and stroke.
What are the Risk Factors Associated with High Blood Pressure?
Blood pressure can be influenced by a lot of factors – age, race, family history, tobacco use, sedentary lifestyle, diet, binge drinking, and stress levels. Chronic conditions such as sleep apnea, diabetes and high cholesterol levels can also precipitate the development of hypertension.
What can You Do to Lower Blood Pressure?
You don't need potentially dangerous drugs to control and reduce your blood pressure. Controlling blood pressure levels could be as simple as doing lifestyle modifications and eating healthier.
If you are a smoker, quit. If you drink heavily, try to practice self-control. At work, take the stairs instead of the elevator. And if you have been obsessed with sweet, sugary foods as well as processed fast-food meals, then modify your eating habits as well. Learn to eat the right kinds of food before it's too late.
Below are 5 of my top picks for powerful foods that could help you lower your blood pressure levels:
artichokes help lower blood pressure1.
The use of artichokes has been implicated in the lowering of cholesterol levels in the blood. Since hypercholesterolemia is one of the risk factors for high blood pressure, this information is actually good news. Three clinical trials conducted separately by Dr. Barbara Wider supports this fact. In Cochrane Database of Systemic Reviews’ October 2009 issue, where the result of the study was published, it was shown that patients who were diagnosed with hypercholesterolemia and given Artichoke leaf extract exhibited a decrease in their blood cholesterol levels.
Artichokes taste amazing steamed (generally steam for about 1 hour) and then dip each piece into a mixture of olive oil, grass-fed butter, and garlic. Delicious!
bananas cut high blood pressure2.
A study published in The New England Journal of Medicine says that incorporating bananas in your day-to-day meals can actually cut stroke-related deaths by as much as 40 percent. A 1997 study at Johns Hopkins University recommended eating at least five bananas daily to achieve the desired effect, and that is to lower elevated blood pressure levels. However, a study conducted by Indian researchers at the Kasturba medical college revealed that people who eat two bananas a day, for one whole week, can lower their blood pressure levels by 10 percent.
Bananas are rich in potassium, which is responsible for the proper functioning of the heart. It works with sodium to maintain balance of the body’s fluids, which is an important factor in the regulation of blood pressure.
compounds in beets beat blood pressure3.
A research study conducted by scientists from Barts and The London School Medicine revealed that simply drinking one 500 ml glass of beetroot juice each day can produce astounding health benefits, especially to the heart.
Beetroot juice has been found to lower high blood pressure levels. Professors Amrita Ahluwalia and Ben Benjamin, from the William Harvey Research Institute and Peninsula Medical Center, respectively, led the research efforts, which revealed that the consumption of dietary nitrate that is found in beetroot has BP-lowering effects in as fast as 1 hour after ingestion, with the effect lasting for up to 24 hours. The result of the study was published in the March 2008 issue of Hypertension.
You can try beetroot juice, or also try baked beets sliced on salads or as a side dish to dinner.
cocoa helps lower blood pressure4.
A study conducted by researchers from Germany’s University Hospital of Cologne revealed that cocoa can significantly lower high blood pressure levels. Study results were published in the Archives of Internal Medicine. The beneficial heart effects of cocoa are attributed to its flavonoid content, specifically procyanids.
Because cocoa is most commonly found in chocolate, people falsely assume that eating a lot of chocolate could be good for the health. Keep in mind that cocoa in chocolates have undergone a lot of processing, and it has been mixed with loads of sugar, so this is not totally healthy. The best way to take advantage of the health benefits offered by cocoa is to choose raw cacao – it is good for the heart, the brain and the liver. Raw cacao nibs go great in smoothies! Also use organic cocoa powder in smoothies or homemade hot cocoa sweetened with stevia instead of sugar.
garlic fights hypertension5.
Researchers from South Australia’s University of Adelaide have conducted studies, which provide solid proof that the consumption of garlic can indeed help lower elevated blood pressure levels. Garlic supplements in powder form were given and results revealed that it produced a reduction in systolic blood pressure. Garlic has been known all over the world as a very important herb, especially with its heart-protecting capabilities. It helps lower blood cholesterol levels and prevents blood from forming clots (which could lead to heart attack and stroke).
Furthermore, the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences journal has published the results of a laboratory test showing how garlic juice can lead to a decrease in blood pressure levels. Eating the equivalent of 2 cloves of garlic each day can significantly contribute to the health of the heart.

Amalkan gaya hidup sihat.

Water, the simplest appetite control method

Read this articles:
An appetite control agent that requires no prescription, has no side-effects and costs almost nothing? A new clinical trial has confirmed that just two 8-ounce glasses of the stuff, taken before meals, enables people to shed pounds. The new miracle elixir? Water.

The Virginia Tech findings, presented at the 240th National Meeting of the American Chemical Society, come from the first randomized controlled intervention trial demonstrating that increased water consumption is an effective weight loss strategy.

"We found in earlier studies that middle aged and older people who drank two cups of water right before eating a meal ate between 75 and 90 fewer calories during that meal. In this recent study, we found that over the course of 12 weeks, dieters who drank water before meals, three times per day, lost about 5 pounds more than dieters who did not increase their water intake," said Brenda Davy, senior author on the study. "People should drink more water and less sugary, high-calorie drinks. It's a simple way to facilitate weight management."

Previous studies had hinted that drinking water before meals reduces intake of calories but there has been surprisingly little scientific information on the topic. The study included 48 adults aged 55-75 years, divided into two groups. One group drank 2 cups of water prior to their meals and the other did not. All of the subjects ate a low-calorie diet during the study. Over the course of 12 weeks, water drinkers lost about 15.5 pounds, while the non-water drinkers lost about 11 pounds.

Davy said water may be so effective simply because it fills up the stomach with a substance that has zero calories. "People feel fuller as a result, and eat less calorie-containing food during the meal. Increased water consumption may also help people lose weight if they drink it in place of sweetened calorie-containing beverages."

Davy also pointed out that that nobody knows exactly how much water people should drink daily. The Institute of Medicine says that most healthy people can simply let thirst be their guide. It does not specify exact requirements for water, but set general recommendations for women at about 9 cups of fluids - from all beverages including water - each day, and men at about 13 cups of fluids.

Ibadah Puasa Dan Peranannya Dalam Rawatan Detoksifikasi

hello...

Think you might have a symptom of migraines?

Knowing if you have a symptom of migraines or something else will give you the keys you need to find the right treatment. Even a doctor may misdiagnose you at first, so we're going to look closely at each symptom to see what your head may be trying to tell you!
Things to remember: Remember that the chances are good that you may get more than one
type of headache. You may have a symptom of migraines and tension headaches. Be aware that you may suffer from both! (One of the best books to help you decide what type of headache you have is from the "For Dummies" series – you guessed it, Migraines for Dummies! )
Secondly, remember that symptoms are not proof, only evidence. Headaches are complex so you should go to your doctor for help. We want to guide you through the facts so that you and your doctor can get to the truth and solve the problem.
You also need to know that a "typical" migraine ain't so typical! You may have drastically different symptoms from me, but still have migraine. Some people even have migraine without pain (silent migraine) or pain not in the head but somewhere else! We're all unique! :)
Finally, remember that your symptoms may change over the years, and you may need to change your treatment to match.

Symptom of Migraines #1 – Aura
Though only 15-20% of migraine sufferers get an aura, it's one of the clearest signs that you have migraine. Before you get a headache (though the aura may crop up during headache as well) you may get strange symptoms. You may see flashing lights or wavy lines, feel dizzy, or just not feel right. There are several other possible auras as well, so i have a whole article about migraine and aura to give you the facts! Learn about migraine aura without headache or silent migraine.

Symptom of Migraines #2 – Where's the pain (and when is it leaving)??
You may have heard that a symptom of migraines is pain on one side of the head. This is a common (not universal) symptom, but could also indicate a cluster headache or even (though rarely) a tension headache. Migraine pain is usually quite severe, but a tension headache is usually just a dull ache. Read more about tension headache symptoms. The pain usually lasts 1-3 hours (less in children) to 3 days (though rarely that long). Migraines may attack 1-4x per month (though in some people 10 or more times) or only 2 or 3 times over an entire lifetime.
Cluster headaches, in contrast, reach a peak in 5-10 minutes and may only last 45 minutes to 3 hours. Read more about the differences in cluster headaches here.
Read about thunderclap headaches, which go from 0 to agony in less than 60 seconds...
Headache temple pain could have a variety of causes...
Another type of pain migraineurs deal with is called allodynia, which is a sensitivity to touch, on the scalp or arms. Read more about allodynia. Believe it or not, pain is one possible symptom of migraine. Yes, most people with migraines have pain, but some people get migraines with no pain at all (silent migraine - often eye migraine).

Symptom of Migraines #3 – Nausea
Nausea and vomiting are among the most dreaded symptoms. Vomiting may be a sign that your headache is almost over, or that it's just starting. It can sometimes be so severe that it happens over and over in cycles and may cause dehydration.
There are a number of different approaches to treating this symptom. For all the details, read this migraine nausea article.

Symptom of Migraines #4 – Low tolerance for . . .
Light, odours, or noises. It is very typical of migraineurs that they will need to go and lie down in a dark, quiet room. If this sounds like you, you likely have migraine as opposed to cluster headaches, where the sufferer may want to walk around.

Symptom of Migraines #5 – Circulatory problems
We learned on our cause of migraines page (which will help you understand symptom of migraines) that migraines seem to be related to changes in blood vessels and blood flow. Sometimes this can result in strange symptoms, such as changes in skin colour, change in heart rate, or feeling like you have a fever (when you don't).
A migraine may also cause nasal congestion and watery eyes, leading some doctors to think you may have a sinus headache, or sinusitis, in which your sinuses become red and inflamed. Sinusitis, however, lasts for more than just a couple days, and may last weeks or months.
It's been estimated that half of migraine sufferers don't know they have migraine but think they have sinus headache! Technically, migraines activate a nerve cluster which in turn stimulates tear ducts and sinuses. Read this page for more on migraine vs sinus headache. You may also have a fever, pain when your forehead or area under your eyes is touched, and perhaps even swelling around the eyes. If your headache is recurrent and goes away in a few hours or a day or two, you likely don't have sinusitis. As always, if you have new symptoms, talk to your doctor.

Symptom of Migraines #6 – Gastrointestinal Woes
This includes diarrhea, constipation, or cramps. Your stomach may even become paralysed (gastroparesis), making oral painkillers ineffective.

Symptom of Migraines #7 – Behavioural Changes
You may be irritable not just because of your pain, but because of the way migraine effects your brain (but don't use that as an excuse to yell at your spouse!). Other changes may include: becoming more passive, lower mental ability, restlessness, confusion. You may also have extra energy and euphoria, or even increased creativity! (Don't you wish you could choose your symptoms?!) At the worst, migraine sufferers feel like they're losing control, going crazy, and may even feel suicidal.

You're not alone - just how many people have migraine? What symptoms do they have? Find out these things and much more on our migraine statistics page!

DANGER SIGNS:
If you have sudden changes in your headaches, loss of balance or muscle weakness, drooping eyelids, neck pain, or a headache made worse when you strain, see your doctor right away.
